JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have selected Louisville safety James Sample with the fifth pick in the fourth round of the NFL draft Saturday.
Jacksonville traded down one spot, swapping picks with the Jets, and took Sample.
The 6-foot-2, 209-pound Sample started his college career at Washington, transferred to American River Junior College and then led the Cardinals with 90 tackles in his only season there. He also had four interceptions.
He will compete with Sergio Brown and Josh Evans for a starting spot. The Jaguars tried to sign free safety Devin McCourty in free agency, but he re-signed with New England.
