Jaguars' safety Johnathan Cyprien out for preseason with fractured finger

The Jaguars were prepared to handle being without their top offensive playmaker in tight end Julius Thomas when they exited the field Friday night.

Thomas fractured his right hand on his second snap in a 23-21 win over Pittsburgh in the preseason opener. The hope is that Thomas will be ready for the season opener at home against Carolina on Sept. 13.

Now, the defense will be hoping for some quick healing as well.

Strong safety Johnathan Cyprien sustained a fracture in his right index finger against the Steelers. The third-year veteran will miss the rest of the preseason but will not need surgery.
