The Jaguars’ streak of never participating in the supplemental draft extended to another year Thursday when they passed on the six eligible players.
No team made a selection, which would have resulted in forfeiting a pick in the corresponding round of the 2017 draft.
Now free agents who can sign with any team are Purdue defensive lineman Ra’Zahn Howard, Mississippi cornerback Tee Shepard, Virginia Tech long snapper Eddie D’Antuono, Sam Houston State running back Jalen Overstreet, University of Calgary (Canada) receiver Rashaun Simonise and Concordia College (Alabama) defensive end Cameron Walton.
Myriad reasons were listed for the players’ decisions to declare: Howard and Simonise reportedly had academic issues, Shepard left Ole Miss’ program last October and chose the NFL over an opportunity at Miami (Ohio), D’Antuono graduated in May and opted to leave the Hokies, Overstreet had off-the-field issues although his felony charge on credit card abuse was dropped earlier this week and Walton declared after his school dropped football and he didn’t have enough academic credit hours to transfer.
