The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially cut veteran safety Tashaun Gipson.
Gipson has been an above-average starter for the Jaguars, but Jarrod Wilson has quietly been very good filling in as a starter over the last few weeks of the season. While Gipson is probably the better player, I’m not sure that he is $8.5 million better — Gipson has a $9 million cap hit next year while Wilson’s cap hit is $631,000.
We needed to save money against the cap this season and cutting Gipson while retaining Wilson was one way to do it.
