Jaguars' plan for safety Josh Evans remains strong

For the past two seasons, Jaguars safety Josh Evans has been The Accidental Starter.

Evans was inserted into the starting lineup at free safety four games into the 2013 season when Dwight Lowery suffered a season-ending concussion early in a loss at Seattle. The sixth-round pick out of Florida started 11 games.

Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell and coach Gus Bradley removed Evans from the starting lineup heading into the offseason program in 2014, favoring Winston Guy. Guy was ineffective and was eventually released.

Evans started the final 13 games at free safety, finishing third on the team in tackles with 90 and played 968 of 1,120 defensive snaps, the second-highest total behind strong safety Johnathan Cyprien.
