Sam Young understands the life of a backup offensive lineman.
He doesn’t get to play except on special teams, but he has to be ready to go in at a moment’s notice if a starter is injured.
That happened Sunday in New Orleans when right tackle Jermey Parnell went out with a hamstring injury, and Young came in for the final 17 snaps.
It is the second time that’s happened to Young this year. He played 28 snaps in the opener against Carolina when left tackle Luke Joeckel suffered an ankle injury.
