Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas can’t catch passes after breaking his right hand in Friday’s preseason-opening 23-21 win over Pittsburgh.
Thomas is able to run routes in practice, but the Jaguars don’t want him catching passes and he’s been ruled out for the final three preseason games. The team is targeting the Sept. 13 opener against Carolina for Thomas’ return.
Thomas and quarterback Blake Bortles had been building chemistry going back to March. Just days after signing with the team, Thomas joined Bortles and other Jaguars receivers in California for training sessions. The two also had a strong connection in training camp until the injury.
