That’s what they paid for.
The Jaguars gave their fans a taste of what kind of weapon free-agent addition tight end Julius Thomas can be in a scrimmage Saturday night at EverBank Field. General manager Dave Caldwell paid Thomas huge money in the offseason, signing the 27-year-old to a five-year, $46-million deal with $24 million guaranteed.
One play showed why it was a wise investment. Quarterback Blake Bortles spotted Thomas lined up on strong side outside linebacker Dan Skuta in a spread formation. Thomas easily ran past Skuta and made an impressive over-the-shoulder catch for a 14-yard touchdown from Bortles, who looked at him the whole time.
