Jaguars FS Tashaun Gipson says early matchups against top QBs creates sense of urgency

Jaguars free safeties combined for zero interceptions last year.

Expect Tashaun Gipson to break that drought early in the season.

Gipson has picked off 14 passes in his first four seasons in the league. Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell signed Gipson away from Cleveland in March, giving him a five-year contract worth $36 million with $12 million guaranteed.

The 25-year-old Gipson is participating in the voluntary offseason program, which began Monday.

His role is simple. Play center field, locate the ball and pick it off.

“They really want me to be that back-end field general,” Gipson said.
