Unproductive as a punt returner for two years and passed on the receiver depth chart last season, Ace Sanders was released by the Jaguars on Friday.
Sanders, a fourth-round selection in 2013, becomes the first of the Dave Caldwell Era’s 25 draft picks to be moved out.
Sanders’ first year was highlighted by 51 catches when he was pressed into extra duty as a receiver. His second year was derailed by a four-game substance abuse suspension to open the season and then a shuffle down the pecking order after the arrival of second-round draft picks Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson and the emergence of undrafted free agent Allen Hurns.
