Jaguars cut free safety Sergio Brown

Expendable after the signing of Tashaun Gipson last month, the Jaguars released free safety Sergio Brown today.

Brown’s release creates $2.25 million of salary cap space and carries no dead money. He signed a three-year, $7 million deal with the Jaguars in March 2015.

Brown, 28, was the latest to get a chance to play free safety for the Jaguars and fail. He started four of the first five games before being relegated to back-up duty. He was sixth on the team with 10 missed tackles.

In 15 games, he had 36 tackles, 1.5 sacks and two pass break-ups.
