Jaguars cut CB Demetrius McCray, along with seven others

Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell started to hone the roster on Monday as the regular season approaches.

The Jaguars cut eight players prior to Tuesday’s NFL deadline for all teams to be down from a 90-man roster to 75. The final cut to 53 must be made by Saturday afternoon.

Cornerback Demetrius McCray was the most notable exit. The fourth-year veteran was taken in the seventh round in Caldwell’s first draft in 2013. He played in 46 games with 16 starts, making 73 tackles with six pass break-ups and no interceptions.

In addition to McCray, the Jaguars released the following players: linebacker Joplo Bartu, receiver Shaq Evans, kicker Sam Ficken, cornerback Mike Hilton, running back Cameron Marshall, receiver Jamal Robinson and punter Ryan Quigley.
