The battle to be the Jaguars' starting strong safety is over for now.
James Sample is hopeful to relaunch it as training camp progresses.
Sample entered the offseason program with a chance to take over the job from incumbent Johnathan Cyprien. That didn’t happen. Sample didn’t perform well enough in organized team activities in June and Cyprien came to training camp with a firm hold on his spot.
“In OTAs, he struggled a little bit,” perpetually-positive Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said after Thursday’s practice.
“He struggled picking things up. We thought here’s a great deal with Cyp and Samp competing in there and it separated itself.
