Jaguars add Werner, a former first-round pick from FSU

Figuring the risk was smaller than the potential payoff, the Jaguars signed Bjoern Werner on Wednesday, more than two months after the Indianapolis Colts gave up on the 2013 first-round draft pick.

Werner, a 6-foot-3, 266-pound outside linebacker for the Colts, is expected to compete for a back-up spot at weak-side defensive end for the Jaguars.

Werner joins linebacker Telvin Smith, receiver Rashad Greene and new cornerback Jalen Ramsey as former Seminoles with the Jaguars.

Drafted No. 24 overall, Werner had only 6 1/2 sacks in 38 games for Indianapolis, which cut him March 8.

Already this offseason, the Jaguars have added defensive linemen Malik Jackson (free agency) and four draft picks — Yannick Ngakoue, Sheldon Day, Tyrone Holmes and Jonathan Woodard.
