When thinking of the Jacksonville Jaguars falling in love with players, it’s easy to quickly think back to the time under general manager Gene Smith. The GM obsessed with “high character” players from small school, there was arguably nobody in the NFL outside of Oakland who was more in danger of falling in love with players than Smith.
It led to the forever-maligned selection of punter Bryan Anger in the third round. It led to the trade up and selection of quarterback bust Blaine Gabbert. It gave the Jaguars a host of problems for many, many years.
Current GM Dave Caldwell has done a much better job since he came to town.
