For three years, the nearly hard-and-fast baseline to play cornerback for the Jaguars was being 6-foot. An exception would be made for a 5-foot-11-inch player, but no shorter.
That made the signing of Mississippi undrafted free agent Mike Hilton earlier this month interesting.
Hilton is listed at 5 feet 9 inches, making him the shortest cornerback of this Jaguars administration.
Since 2013, the Jaguars’ primary cornerbacks were or are Alan Ball and Demetrius McCray (6-2); Jalen Ramsey (6-1); Aaron Colvin, Will Blackmon, Davon House and Prince Amukamara (6-foot); and Dwayne Gratz (5-11).
Despite a 226-tackle career for the Rebels, Hilton wasn’t surprised he went undrafted, “because if I was six-something, it would have been different.
