Times-Union sports columnist Gene Frenette grades the Jaguars game against the Dolphins based on production, effort and game circumstances.
OFFENSE
B+ Jaguars’ fans have waited a long time to witness the entertaining pitch-and-catch show between QB Blake Bortles and Allen Robinson (6 catches, 155 yards), which produced the first 20-point first half in Bortles’ 15 career starts. When they needed to move the ball to win the game, Bortles ignited things with big passes to Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns. The running game remains a work in progress.
DEFENSE
B+ Given the depleted secondary, which used four backups at one point in second half, it’s understandable that QB Ryan Tannehill was able to light it up when the pressure wasn’t there.
