Dave Caldwell is bracing himself for a multitude of options being available to him and the Jaguars with the No. 5 pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft.
But compared to the unknown future the Jaguars’ general manager faced 20 years ago after graduating from John Carroll University in Ohio, choosing between Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack, Joey Bosa and other coveted draft picks should be a relatively painless exercise.
In 1996, Caldwell felt pretty certain his football career would end as a part-time starting outside linebacker at his Division III alma mater. He saw no path for himself, in any capacity, to eventually be part of the NFL Draft.
