There was a time when linebacker Daryl Smith thought he would play his entire career in Jacksonville.
“I did at one point, but you get into the business side of it and I’ve been around to see a whole lot of things happen,’’ he said.
He saw a lot happen in 2013 at age 30 when he became a free agent after playing in just two games in 2012 because of a groin injury.
The new regime headed by general manager Dave Caldwell was rebuilding with young players and Smith was a veteran free agent coming off a five-year, $25 million deal and the Jaguars were ready to go in a different direction.
