One of the biggest fans of Jaguars first-round draft pick Dante Fowler is the man who lost his job while trying to prepare the formidable pass-rusher for the NFL: Auburn defensive coordinator and ex-Florida head coach Will Muschamp.
One of Muschamp’s first recruiting trips after taking the UF job was a visit to St. Petersburg-Lakewood High in January, 2011. He was sold on Fowler from watching tape of his junior season, then became convinced his future was boundless after coaching him for three years.
“You could see his work ethic and coachability,” Muschamp told me Friday.
