JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- This offseason, the Jacksonville Jaguars decided that the fullback position wasn't needed for the team's offense. The team was the latest franchise to rid themselves of a position that soon could go the way of the dinosaur.
Five teams are without a fullback on their 90-man rosters heading into training camp and Jacksonville's move to relieve themselves of the position is proving that this trend will only persist as the NFL continues to transition into a "passing league." Even teams that still carry fullbacks are beginning to use them less and less as the league progresses with the "pass first" mindset.
