Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles was trying to compliment offensive coordinator Greg Olson and make a point about the difficulty of his job on game day at his Wednesday media gathering, and then came an awkwardly-worded response about fans who complain about play selection.
“I don’t know, it’s like a kindergartener saying something to a college kid,” Bortles said.
That analogy triggered a mini-firestorm on social media and local talk radio about the Jaguars quarterback calling out fans. It's doubtful that was Bortles’ intent. He attempted to give an honest answer to my inquiries about the difficulty of NFL play-calling, but used a poor choice of words in trying to compliment the work ethic of offensive coordinator Greg Olson.
