On a day that Iowa State’s wrestling program celebrated its 100th anniversary by honoring some of the best to wear a cardinal and gold singlet, a local kid from Huxley may have garnered the loudest cheers of anyone.
In the final home match of his college career, redshirt senior Tanner Weatherman worked West Virginia 165-pounder Connor Flynn into a cradle and pinned him with 17 seconds left in the first period, helping the Cyclones to a 28-11 rout of West Virginia.
Weatherman waved as he jogged off the mat, high-fiving his coaches along the way.
“I’m just grateful for the opportunity,” Weatherman said.
