Bill Fennelly understands that basketball sometimes takes a backseat to life’s more-important events. The Iowa State women’s basketball coach has experienced those situations more often this season than perhaps any other during his 21 years in Ames.
Recently, his team’s best player, Seanna Johnson, briefly left the program to be with her family after her father suffered a stroke. Johnson missed Wednesday night’s game as a result, a fact Fennelly maintained wasn’t a big deal.
“A lot of people like to talk about family first and there’s other things that are more important than winning and losing,” Fennelly said Thursday.
