Brooke Timmer, one of Nikki Moody’s lawyers in her racial discrimination lawsuit against Iowa State women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly, the university and the state of Iowa, said the lawsuit was brought about after Moody unsuccessfully tried to find a different resolution to the issue.
The lawsuit said Moody was “constantly demeaned, berated, harassed and discriminated against” by Fennelly. It caused Moody, who is African-American, “severe emotional distress.”
Timmer, of Fiedler and Timmer P.L.L.C. in Johnston, said the charges were delayed because Moody sought an internal resolution first.
In January, there was a mediation between all the parties involved, according to Timmer, but there wasn’t any headway made toward a “meaningful resolution.
