It is tough to win basketball games, Bill Fennelly once said, and even tougher when the ball does not go through the hoop. On Wednesday night, the Iowa State women’s basketball learned that lesson in the most painful way.
The Cyclones, riding an eight-game winning streak into the contest, couldn’t find any semblance of offense inside the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. They struggled in the paint, from beyond the arc and from the charity stripe in a 75-54 loss to the fourth-ranked Longhorns.
“That’s a great Texas team,” Fennelly said on the Cyclone Radio Network postgame show.
