Women’s Basketball: Cyclones cruise over Midwestern State in opening exhibition

Coach Bill Fennelly said two of his three true freshmen would play plenty in the Iowa State women’s basketball team’s season-opening exhibition. If Thursday night’s game against Midwestern State is any indication of how the season might go, the cardinal and gold fans are going to enjoy what’s ahead.

Bridget Carleton and Meredith Burkhall combined for 33 points and the Cyclones dismantled the Mustangs on Thursday, 79-36.

Carleton scored 19 to lead ISU on 8-of-17 shooting. Burkhall put up 14 on a 7-of-9 showing from the field and added 7 rebounds.

ISU struggled from the field in the first half, making just 10 of its 30 shots.
