Bill Fennelly knew the hit Bridget Carleton took to the mouth against No. 14 Duke was bad when he noticed that “there was blood everywhere.” On Friday, he said Carleton’s injury is a little worse than he initially thought.
“She’s got about a fourth-month process ahead of her,” the Iowa State women’s basketball coach said. “She had her first root canal, which is exciting. She feels better, but obviously not ready to play yet. You won’t see her on Sunday.”
Sunday’s game, against Southern (2 p.m., Cyclones.tv), will be the third-straight Carleton will miss. The true freshman played only nine minutes in the loss to the Blue Devils when she took a charge in the form of an elbow to the mouth on Nov.
