Toledo Rockets head coach Matt Campbell could soon be leaving his current position to take on the same one with the Iowa State Cyclones, per a report from SI.com. The report states that Campbell is indeed the front-runner for the job and Iowa State has canceled all interviews with other candidates.
Campbell, 35, has gone 35-15 (24-8 MAC) in four-plus seasons with Toledo and was 9-2 (6-2 MAC) this season. His tenacious nature is just what Iowa State needs, but this isn’t exactly a step forward for him, at least from a job-quality standpoint.
Keep in mind that Iowa State went 3-9 (2-7 Big 12) this season and was 32-54 (16-44 Big 12) in seven seasons under recently dismissed coach Paul Rhoads.
