NORMAN, Okla. — Eleventh-ranked Iowa State led No. 3 Oklahoma for most of the game, but couldn’t hang on long enough to make it count.
The Sooners took a late lead and never relinquished it as they took an 87-83 decision at the Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday to start Big 12 play.
ISU (11-2, 0-1) got 29 points from Georges Niang and 19 from reserve Deonte Burton but it wasn’t enough to stave off the Sooners (12-0, 1-0) on their home floor with Buddy Hield scoring 22 points and Ryan Spangler 20 along with 12 rebounds.
