Men’s Basketball: Slowing down speeding up ISU’s success

Ask most college basketball fans to describe Iowa State men’s basketball program and speed may come to mind, like it did for Buffalo coach Nate Oats. He described the Cyclones as “five sprinters running a 100-meter dash” earlier this season.

But could slower actually be better for No. 13 ISU? Coach Steve Prohm thinks that may be the case.

“This may shock people,” he said. “When our possessions are down, we’re a better team.”

The numbers certainly present an interesting case.

In the Big 12 play the Cyclones are 3-1 where there were fewer that 70, the lone setback coming last week at Texas Tech.
