NICEVILLE, Fla. — Jameel McKay made it to Iowa State, like many players during the Fred Hoiberg era, via a circuitous route.
From high school in Milwaukee to Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa back to Milwaukee and Marquette and then to Ames. His coach during that brief, one-semester stay with the Golden Eagles was none other than Buzz Williams, who is now at the helm of the Virginia Tech program that ISU defeated 99-77 on Friday night.
“I’ve known Jameel forever,” Williams said. “I love Jameel, I love his family. I love the coaches that were a part of his life prior to me getting to know him.
