Men’s Basketball: Notebook - Niang takes blame amid eight turnovers

When asked what went wrong in the Iowa State men’s basketball team’s 81-76 home loss to West Virginia, Georges Niang immediately blamed himself.

“It starts with me with turning the ball over eight times,” he said. “That’s unacceptable. That type of stuff can’t come from a senior. You can point the finger right at me. That kind of stuff can’t happen.”

Niang, who is dealing with injuries to his thigh and foot, did score 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting, including a 3-of-6 mark from three, but it wasn’t enough as ISU was outscored 9-2 over the final 1 minute, 20 seconds.
