Men’s Basketball: No. 1 Kansas outlasts ISU

LAWRENCE, Kan. — A late lead and a chance to knock off the No. 1 team in the nation in perhaps the country’s most difficult venue to play disappeared in a hurry for the Iowa State men’s basketball team Saturday.

The 21st-ranked Cyclones led with under 5 minutes to play but an ill-timed offensive drought doomed ISU in an 85-78 loss to No. 1 Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse.

Georges Niang led ISU with 22 points, five rebounds and five assists while Jameel McKay added 19 points and nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Jayhawks’ 19 second-chance points or Perry Ellis’ 22 points on senior night for the Jayhawks.
