Men’s Basketball: Niang wins Malone award

Georges Niang has been recognized as the best power forward in college basketball.

The former Iowa State star won the Karl Malone Award , presented by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, on Friday night at the College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles.

Niang averaged 20.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists this past season as a senior for the Cyclones, who made the Sweet Sixteen. He shot 54.7 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from 3-point range.

He became ISU’s first two-time consensus All-American after garnering the honors the past two seasons. Niang is the Cyclones’ second all-time leading scorer.
