Georges Niang has been named the Iowa State 2015-16 male athlete of the year, it was announced Monday.
The 6-foot-8 forward wrapped up his accomplished career as one of the school’s all-time best men’s basketball players, finishing second on the program’s all-time scoring list. He became the first two-time All-American in school history after a senior campaign in which he averaged 20.5 points and 6.2 rebounds.
Niang finished third all-time in field goals made (849), fourth in 3-pointers made (188), 10th in assists (421) and 11th in rebounds (714) for a career at ISU.
The Cyclones made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years last season and finished 23-12 overall.
