Former Alabama head coach David Hobbs was hired as the Iowa State men’s basketball special assistant to the head coach, ISU announced in a statement on Wednesday.
Hobbs replaces Neill Berry in that role. Berry was named an ISU assistant coach earlier this off-season.
Hobbs, a 26-year coaching veteran, was the head coach at Alabama from 1992-98. ISU men’s basketball coach Steve Prohm served as an Alabama manager under Hobbs. Hobbs went 110-76 with the Crimson Tide.
“It is great to be adding coach Hobbs to our staff,” said Prohm in a statement. “I’ve had a relationship with him for more than 20 years so there is a familiarity there.
