Men’s Basketball: Hield, Oklahoma too much for ISU in Big 12 quarterfinals

No. 6 Oklahoma beat the No. 21 Iowa State men’s basketball team, 79-76, in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament on Thursday night in Kansas City, Mo.

The third-seeded Sooners (25-6) advance to play second-seeded West Virginia on Friday night. They were led by Buddy Hield’s 39 points, the most of any player on the floor and the second-most in Big 12 tournament history.

The Cyclones (21-11) shot 46.9 percent from the floor, and were led by Georges Niang’s 31 points on 13-of-18 shooting. He was one of four ISU players to reach double figures, as Matt Thomas, Deonte Burton and Abdel Nader added 13, 12 and 11, respectively.
