Men’s Basketball: Bulls and Thibodeau part ways; Hoiberg waiting game moves on

The Chicago Bulls’ head coaching position is now vacant.

Tom Thibodeau, who had a successful but tumultuous five-year run with the Bulls, was fired by the team on Thursday in a move that has long been expected after his widely reported bouts with team management.

That makes the Bulls free to fully proceed to find his replacement, and it’s long been understood their preference is Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg, who has taken the Cyclones to unprecedented heights during his five years coaching his alma mater.

Hoiberg, 42, has led the Cyclones to back-to-back Big 12 tournament championships and a school-record four-straight NCAA tournaments.
