La Gesse Column: Routine play helps Johnson stand out in milestone game

Seanna Johnson slid behind the Oklahoma defense. Jadda Buckley saw her under the bucket and lobbed a pass her way. Johnson caught the ball, flipped up a shot and converted on two of the easiest points of her Iowa State career.

There was nothing special about her 1,000th career point except it was vintage Johnson, doing whatever it may take, often in gritty ways.

Saturday, during a 77-71 loss to No. 21 Oklahoma, was another milestone day for Johnson in a career full of them. There are others that have put up similar numbers in flashier ways, but it’s never been about style with Johnson.
