As he walked into his final Iowa State press conference, Fred Hoiberg stopped. He noticed a boy in the second row of seats. He took a step back and held out his fist. The youngster pounded knuckles. They shared a smile before Hoiberg strode to the podium.
This is the essence of Hoiberg and ISU. Friday’s press conference was as an opportunity to thank his hometown, but it was so much more. This was one last stroll through Hoiberg’s old haunt before moving on to the next challenge.
“I’m going to miss the fans in a big way,” Hoiberg said.
