AMES, Iowa (AP) Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard says coach Paul Rhoads was dismissed Sunday because the program wasn't going in the right direction.
Pollard spoke to reporters Monday, two days after a devastating loss at Kansas State that left Iowa State at 3-8. Pollard says he wished he didn't have to fire Rhoads, who signed a 10-year extension in 2012, but that the results simply weren't there.
Pollard says the search for a new coach is already underway, though he declined to discuss his timetable. But Rhoads will coach the Cyclones in their season finale at West Virginia this weekend.
