Iowa State Cyclones running back recruit Sheldon Croney accidentally shot himself in the hand earlier this week in his hometown of Bakersfield, California. Speaking to Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register, Sergeant Joe Grubbs of the Bakersfield PD elaborated on the incident.
“He found a firearm and while manipulating the fire arm, shot himself in the hand,” Grubbs said.
He added that no charges would be filed.
“It’s pretty much opened and closed,” Grubbs said.
Just how much Croney would have played for Iowa State this year is up in the air, but the fact that the young recruit hasn’t even played a down for the Cyclones yet and is already linked to a careless gun accident is something of a concern.
