Iowa State President Wendy Wintersteen announce today the university will appeal a $25,000 fine tossed out by the Big 12 Conference for the field storming that took place after the win over then #6 ranked West Virginia.
Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said the school did not have the appropriate measures in place to ensure a safe environment for West Virginia. Commissioner Bowlsby released the following statement;
“We have a duty to provide a safe game environment, the Iowa State Department of Athletics has a written event management policy that was not thoroughly implemented, and was unsuccessful in ensuring the safety and security of all visiting team game participants.
