MORGANTOWN W.Va. - There was no fairy tale ending.
Iowa State couldn’t pull out Paul Rhoads’ final game as the head coach, falling 30-6 to West Virginia on Saturday.
The last time Rhoads led the Cyclones onto the field started as a defensive struggle. The Cyclones contained the Mountaineers potent rushing attack in the first half, allowing only 46 rushing yards. ISU trailed 13-6 at intermission.
Any hopes of one last upset under Rhoads faded in the second half as the Mountaineers (7-4, 4-4), led by wide receiver Shelton Gibson, started moving the football. Gibson caught 6 passes for 148 receiving yards and one touchdown.
