Iowa State defensive tackle Demond Tucker was named the Big 12 defensive newcomer of the year, as voted on by the league coaches, on Tuesday.
The award is typically given to the top junior college transfer in the conference. Tucker arrived at ISU from Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Miss.) this season.
Tucker, a junior, led the Cyclones with 13.0 tackles for loss. He also had 28 tackles and six sacks.
