The paperwork was signed. The student loan form Trever Ryen filled out to cover Iowa State tuition costs needed to be turned in. It just never got done.
Ryen’s procrastination paid off on Tuesday. Coach Paul Rhoads opened up a team meeting by awarding Ryen with a scholarship.
“I don’t have to do that anymore,“ Ryen said.
The Cyclones entered training camp with one extra scholarship. Rhoads wanted the coaching staff to wait until after the third game to award it. He wanted to see how a batch of walk-ons performed.
Even though Ryen, a redshirt sophomore, carved out a role as a running back he didn’t think he would land the coveted scholarship.
