There was good news and Luke Knott couldn’t keep it to himself.
Knott, in the middle of interviews, passed on that Iowa State defensive tackle Mitchell Meyers will be on the sideline for the season opener against Northern Iowa on Saturday. Meyers is battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“I’m not sure if I was supposed to tell,” the linebacker said, “but you guys know now.”
Meyers was diagnosed with cancer in February. He underwent chemotherapy in Ames while also training with the team through the summer. He spent the last month at home in Houston undergoing radiation treatment.
