At Gilbert High School, Wyatt Rhoads did it all. He played both ways. He was on special teams. He was vital to the Tigers’ success.
The moment he walked on at Iowa State this season it all changed. Instead of making the plays he’d be tasked with ensuring teammates would did as part of the scout team.
“You definitely have to have that mindset that you are here to make other people better first,” Wyatt Rhoads, a wide receiver, said. “Then your time will come.”
Wyatt Rhoads is one of five local ISU walk-ons - Ames running back Clifford Kwaw-Mensah, Gilbert linebacker Jared Gescheidler, Gilbert long snapper Jake Rhoads and Ballard tight end Cole Wilson are the others - that saw their role change upon entering college.
