Cliff Fernandez “kind of” knew he wanted to commit to Iowa State when he arrived in town for a visit this weekend.
By the time the Cyclones beat Texas 24-0 on Saturday, Fernandez’s mind was made up. The Southwest Mississippi Community College tight end informed coach Paul Rhoads of his decision on Sunday morning.
“The fans and team and coaches were great,” Fernandez said.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Fernandez is a converted quarterback. He arrived at Southwest Mississippi a quarterback, but the team had a host of signal callers and a need at tight end. Fernandez, with his then 262-pound frame, was a natural fit to move.
